Hello List, Recently, I did a look up for a member of this list. When I offered to do look ups, I posted a description of what the Dawes Roll "plus" is and what it contains. That description came from the book itself. This particular look up caused a bit of confusion as this persons ancestor is on the Dawes Roll, but not in the document that I have. The reason for this is because this persons ancestors were not of Cherokee Blood. The Dawes Roll "plus" addresses only the Cherokee Citizens and only those that were of Cherokee Blood. The other four civilized tribes, the Choctaw, Creek, Chickasaw, and Seminole were not included. My husband, upon my request, read the description I initially gave all of you and agreed that it was not clear that only those of Cherokee Blood were included in the Dawes "plus" I apologize to the person with whom this point became apparent and hope this misunderstanding did not cause too much trouble. I apologize also if the description of the Dawes "plus" was unclear to anyone else. I am still happy to do any look ups for anyone wanting one. Kristine

You can order the Dawes applications of your known ancestors from the Muskogee OK Library, The Oklahoma Historical Society or Tahlequah, but I would suggest that you also try to see a copy of "History of Adair County" (OK) where most of the largest of the Langley families settled. There are two page length rows of Langleys listed. Also check "History of the Cherokee Indians" by Emmet Starr. Good luck jc
