    1. [IT ROOTS] Role Number
    2. Hello, A few weeks ago I read an article that explained why a person may not have a role number or be included in a census (even tho they were Am. Indian) and I thought I had saved it but now I can't locate it. Did anyone else read this ? The article mentioned that a person with a role number had limitations on their travels to stores etc. without a represintitave and that there were other reasons that a person might not have wanted to be included in a census. Thanks for your time. Patty -- Get your [email protected] email for FREE at http://Nameplanet.com/?su

Patty-- I don't think it was posted to Indian Territory Roots mail list -- or I would have definitely commented and corrected that misinformation. Those are stories that are usually designed and used to explain and/or excuse "why-my-ancestors-were-not-on-the-rolls-although-they-were-all-full-bloods". <g> Read and study the REAL history of the FCT's in Indian Territory (Angie Debo, Emmet Starr, Grant Foreman, Kent Carter- to name a few respected authors), and don't believe all that "you hear"! Ask for specific references, case histories and documentation. jc
