    3. Lena, This would be a good place to try. Also do a search on the web, there are a lot of maps out there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/arkansas/ Lena <lena@valu-line.net> wrote: could some on direct me to the old maps of Arkansas Territory? 3. The Choctaws and other tribes were also removed during the time of the TOT. There routes were different, but they were removed just the same. Many of the Choctaws did come from central and lower Mississippi. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Tkstet1@aol.com> To: <indian-territory-roots@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 02, 2006 5:16 PM Subject: Re: [INDIAN-TERRITORY-ROOTS] Cox Family - Atoka City and Stringtown,Oklahoma > Ok,---Tn,Mississippi,Ar,Ok,To California...thanks dont have notes in front > of > me to give it all. > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > INDIAN-TERRITORY-ROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' > without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

    1. [INDIAN-TERRITORY-ROOTS] Bennett family and Cherokee?
    2. Susan Werstein
    3. Greetings. My family tradition has that Ellouise Debby Anne Bennett (1861 - 1888, Greenwood, AR) was of Cherokee descent. Her parents' were James A Bennett (1830 - 1891) and Deborah Ann Mullins (1832 - 1886) both born in SW MS. Further back, Willis Mullins and Lydia Bond were Deborah Ann Mullins parents and Richmond Bennett and Nancy Carlisle were James A Bennett's parents. The migratory pattern was NC/SC, GA, TN, MS, AR and eventually, Ellouise Debby Anne Bennett (the first name mentioned) married Basil Florence. Their children mostly moved to IT (Ada, Joseph, James, Thomas Lee, Mary, Albert and Luther Florence), mostly in Poteau County IT, then OK in the 1880's and 1890's where other relatives (from the Bennett/Mullins side) already lived. Does anyone know of this family? Of any NA connection? There are several family stories to this effect. And yes, as one person on this list said, there are several recipes, herbal concoctions and stories of healers handed down. Thanks, Susan -- ============================================================================= Susan Werstein Phone: (03) 467-5632 Country code: 64 8 Lothian St. Dunedin, New Zealand E-Mail: werstein@es.co.nz =============================================================================

Guess that we are probably cousins of somekind. I am guessing that you go through Catherine. I have cousins that descend out of Catherine. Always fun to meet a distant cousin. 3. To JES and others- The Cherokees who left the Tribe. going into Arkansas were given the opportunity to join those on the Trail of Tears and would then be a part of the Tribe again. These were the ones called TheOld Settlers. They were not removed from Arkansas however many of them did join the Trail when they came through Arkansas and did come on into Indian Territory.I've never heard of any Cherokee coming into Indian Territory prior to TOT.
