    1. Land Rush Participants
    2. The Southwest Oklahoma Genealogical Society offers tract book searches of the Oklahoma land rush records. I ordered one on my great grandfather, Frances Marion Bruce, and yesterday they replied that they had searched all 72 volumes of the Tract Books and found no trace of him. My grandmother related that she and her father were poised on the Texas- Oklahoma border waiting for the gun, that they participated and obtained 160 acres. Is there somewhere else to look. Are there other tract books. Can anyone shed some light for me or steer me to other sources? Thanks for your help. Sharon

    2. At our library here in Wagoner, there is a rare old book and I believe its' name is "The History of Indian Territory" and was published about 1906. It is a reference book, and has biographies of the prominent business and political people at that time, (many were still alive when it was written as they were talked about in the present tense,) with great pictures of the men in the bios. It also has histories of many towns. I will try to get a photocopy of the index and will post surnames when I do. Heather in Wagoner

    1. My Native-American-Ancestors
    2. C.Lee Driskell
    3. Ladies and Gentlemen, I am doing my family history even though I got a late start. I am sorry to say that our family did not share many "stories" about their ancestors so I am pretty much in the dark. I do remember, however, that my Grandmother, Sarah Kathryn BROWN spoke of being Native American. She was born 08/25/1876 in Paulding County, Georgia. I don't have much at all about her except that she married John N.Driskell on 07/23/1893, and they had _4__ children, one of whom, Mary Modell BRETT, later married Emmett Grady Driskell in Bay County, Florida. They had six children. In checking around the area from which my Grandmother came, and asking questions, it is possible that she was Cherokee. I have found a Katie Brown on the 1880 census for Georgia. This child is the right age to be my grandmother. I would really appreciate any advice that any of you could give me regarding making more progress in my family genealogy. There are 38 *BROWNs* listed in Emmet Starr's index, but I don't have a copy to check them. Maybe someone would, PLEASE! C.Lee Driskell cldris@lasal.net -- *I don't suffer from INSANITY. 2. Art Brown
    3. My greatgrandfather, Royall J. Allen, went from Texas to Indian Territory in the late 1880's to manage the interests of cattleman J. B. Wilson of Dallas. He quit about 1893 and went to Duncan, where he and J. M. Armstrong purchased the grocery business of William Duncan. Later he entered banking with his father-in-law Captain J. T. Jeanes, who founded the first bank in Duncan. Is anyone familiar with J. B. Wilson or his "interests?" He may have just been renting grazing land, but perhaps other activities? His ranch name or brand? Any Allen or Jeanes surnames out there? art brown Nisswa, MN

    3. I have Volumes 2 through 5 of A STANDARD HISTORY OF OKLAHOMA, by Joseph B. Thoburn, published by The American Historical Society, 1916. The problem is that the set has no index or table of contents. Is anyone familiar with this set? Is volume 1 the index? Are there more volumes than 5? Three of these volumes contain over a thousand pages of bio's, but they are not even in alphabetical order. The bio's are facinating reading. I sure would like to find volume 1 or an index, then the data could be shared. I also have a copy of the PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION OF THE PROPOSED STATE OF OKLAHOMA Held At Guthrie, Oklahoma November 20, 1906 to November 16, 1907. This belonged to my greatgrandfather Royall J. Allen, who was from Duncan. About 500 pages of mostly dry reading, but at least it contains a name index. 2. Just wanted you all to know that contacting the AF&FM Lodge organization worked! The sent me my ggrandfather's history with his Lodge in Tamaha, I.T., (he was the Worshipful Master for one year!) and told me that that was all the information they had on William BELL DAVIDSON. I never knew what the 'B' stood for! Hopefully, and probably, BELL was William's mother's maiden name. Thank heavens for The Tamaha Weekly Banner! Wish me luck . . . Barbara DAVIDSON Norkus
