I, like Deborah, would like to know more about those CRIMINAL CASES, that you find at NAIL. I have a couple that interest me; but, I am not sure they are my ancestors. I don't wish to spend $10 per record for information that may not be mine. I do hope someone can enlighten us all on this. Georgia
Hi, I've been lurking around sometime now and still haven't even gotten a glimpse of anything that even remotely looks familiar. I'll throw this out there and see if anything hooks up. Family oral tradition told that SARAH ANN LOCKE was an Cherokee Indian Princess, with the name of "Morning Star" and that her father, DICKERSON LOCKE, was a chief "CHIEF THUNDERCLOUD". FRANCIS MARION TERRY married SARAH ANN LOCKE they had two daughters Celey Pearl and Rebecca. The LOCKE's supposedly came out of S. C. The girls were born in Mississippi. Celey Pearl was born in 1853. They were in Hackett, Sebastian Co. Ark in 1868 where Frank Terry was blinded in a well explosion and later died. Sarah Ann Locke TERRY moved to Franklin co. Ark. and worked as a cook for the RR. Does anyone know of any connections? Thanks, Vicki Palmer-Smith VLPSMITH@aol.com
Hello All, I'm needing some help tracking down some family. I'm at a total dead end with my own grandpa (James Samuel BUSH b. 1874 KY.), so decided to try another approach. Grandpa sisters Hallie & Sally were under 5 years of age in 1880 when they came to Ellis Co. Tx. with their parents. The parents were killed and the three children were farmed out to three separate families. I don't know the names of these families and because of the lack of census information for Ellis Co. TX. in 1880 & 1890 I'm stuck on them too. According to my aunt, the children went to school together in Ellis Co. TX. even though they were living in separate households. So here is what I would like to happen. If anyone that reads this and knows these families, please let them know that I'm searching for them. Hal lie married O'Banning SELLERS (the date would I can only guess be between 1900 & 1910). Mr. SELLERS had a nephew named Louis PARKS according to my aunt. Sally married ARMSTRONG about the same time frame. If there are any descendants of these two marriages out there, would you please contact me. NARA is the National Archives and Records Administration...there are several data bases you may access (Dawes Commission Applications, Guion/Miller Index, 1896 Citizenship Applications, Fort Smith Arkansas criminal case files, Enemy Alien Registration Affidavits, Rough Riders, Chinese Exclusion Acts, to name a few) online and then if you find someone/something you would like to have more information on, you may request a copy of what the government has in it's archives. Don't let me deter anyone from asking for a book, but be aware that most genealogical books containing historical or family tree data are considered reference books and will not be available for interlibrary loan. Some libraries will also charge for the book loan, if it can be sent out. Some will keep the book, but will send an index or ask you for the names you are researching, which they will then check. art brown Nisswa, MN -----Original Message----- From: Astringf@aol.com <Astringf@aol.com> To: Indian-Territory-Roots-L@rootsweb.com <Indian-Territory-Roots-L@rootsweb.com> Date: 30 January, 1999 2:18 PM Subject: Interlibrary Genealogic Book Loans >For your fellow "newbie's" out there, I just discovered something. Hi all! I just received a few packets from NARA and I have a couple of question to throw out to you...One of the packets I requested was a Citizenship Application for MINTA COBB. There wasn't much in it, but there were some new names to add to my research; GOINS and BIG DOLLAR. Here's what it contained: Minta Cobb, mother of Maude Bell Cobb and Johnnie Cobb, was the child of an unknown Goins. Minta's paternal grandfather and grandmother were Nathan Goins and Mary McGill (1/2 Cherokee). Nathan's father was James Goins (1/2 Cherokee). Mary McGill's father and mother were an unknown Big Dollar "full blood" and Hannah Big Dollar "half breed". (The terminology used is directly from the affidavit in the packet.) Does anyone have any info on the above surnames? Minta claimed 1/8 Cherokee...how is the blood quantum figured? Also, has anyone else requested a Citizenship app and received more info ie marriage licenses, etc..? Jeanne
I am writing to update my information on Martha Ann Clark. Maybe someone will recognize some names. Martha's parents are on the 1910 census for Bokoshe township. They are John and Nancy Clark. Martha's son, John Meeks Jr (age 23) was with his grandparents. Martha's daughter, Hettie was with Martha and Isom Ralls on the 1900 census for Choctaw Nation. I still have no information on John Meeks, Sr. What became of him, that Martha married again? I must sing the praises of the terrific volunteers, who do lookups for us. The LeFlore County volunteer, Deanna, found this information for me. I am eternally grateful. Georgia Aeverman

Another great resource is the Church of the Latter Day Saints. Their Family Research Centers are major resources for genealogist. You might want to call ahead before visiting them to check for hours and if you need to make an appointment. I found a first cousin to my Husband, didn't even know her. We not only found her, obtained significant research, but we found a friend. The volunteers are very friendly and will guide and help you in the types of materials they have on hand as well as what they can order for you. They have the SS on file, and computer copies are very low. You do NOT have to be a member of the Latter Day Saints in order to use their facilities, but it is nice when information is shared with them so others researching your lines can contact you. I still don't have all the informtion I can send off for, but will eventually get it all. ALEXANDER,AUTREY,BEASLEY,ENDSLEY,LYON,GADDIS,SHEPPARD, and it seems, most of Texas, Ok., Ar. and La. http://unidial.com/~jautrey/ Major update coming soon, so visit often. For your fellow "newbie's" out there, I just discovered something. The old pros probably already know about this.
