    1. Delayed Birth Certificates
    2. alan lamb
    3. My mother had the same problem. She was born in I.T. in 1905. She had to have the following information to get a delayed birth certificate. School records from the county court house. My birth certificate a statement from two of her uncles saying they testified to her birth. I'm not sure but they could have taken a marriage certificate. She ordered it from the State Dept. of Vital Statistics in Okla. City. Carolyn Lamb <alamb@ilinkusa.net>

    1. Dawes Rolls (NAIL)
    2. Cheryl Conway
    3. Somebody asked how to get the digitized copies of Dawes Rolls on NAIL. I'm using 'em now, so I've got 'em handy. (If you go to the URL listed in Indian-Territory-Roots, the instructions are also listed there, somewhere: which's where I printed them from.) Ok: there are 2 files of the type you are referring to (digitized on-line source, page by page.) These are: 1. Final Rolls of the Citizens & Freedmen of the 5 Civilized Tribes in Indian Territory, 634 pg.s. Lists the names of the individuals who were allowed on the tribal rolls by the Dawes Commission. 2. Index to the Final Rolls of Citizens and Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes in Indian Territory, 635 pg.s. Lists the names of the individuals who were allowed on the tribal rolls by the Dawes Commission. (I'm not sure myself what's the difference between these 2.) 1. To search "Final Rolls": a. select STANDARD or EXPERT search b. In the first keywords box, type "Final Rolls" c. Check the checkbox for ONLY DESCRIPTIONS LINKED TO DIGITAL COPIES d. SUBMIT the search e. The "Number of Hits" indicator will go from 0 to 1. f. hit DISPLAY RESULTS 2. To search "Index to Final Rolls" (nearly same thing): a. select STANDARD or EXPERT search b. In the first keywords box, type "Index to Final Rolls" c. Check the checkbox for ONLY DESCRIPTIONS LINKED TO DIGITAL COPIES d. SUBMIT the search e. The "Number of Hits" indicator will go from 0 to 1. f. hit DISPLAY RESULTS For both of these, when you hit display results (to display the 1 hit result) it brings up a list, where each list item is the link to the graphic for each of the 634 or so digitized pages. If you then click\ on any item in the list, the literal digitized page of the document will be displayed (it's a large graphic, so it may take some time). I play "Solitaire" while waiting for each graphic to load (to the point where it's legible) and then decide whether to save it or search more forwards/backwards. The lists are more or less in alphabetical order, so you can do this. Start to finish in the index, is pretty much alpha-order A => Z, but on each page, sometimes the order gets a bit scrambled. I hope this helps! /Cheryl Conway caconway@worldnet.att.net

    1. Geo.W. BAILEY m. Susan F.?? Chickasaw Nation, IT
    2. Zandra C Lee
    3. Just joined the list, hoping to find someone that knows something about my ggrandparents. George Bailey married Susan F. I don't have her last name and just her middle initial. In the 1900 IT Chickasaw Nation OK census, Susan wasn't listed. I thought she must have died. George and his children listed this way: George b. May 1860 AR Laborer Lulu M. Nov 1887 TX Maizie M. June 1888 TX Hattie A. Apr 1890 IT Mettie B. Dec. 1894 TX Frank B. June 1896 IT He may have been a Baptist preacher also. What would be a reason someone is not listed in the census? She was found in the 1910 census in Seminole Co, OK. And in the 1920 Seminole Co,OK census. We would love to be able to find her last name. She was born in TX about 1865. I thought she may have had family close by. I'd love to find her family. If anyone knows anything about this family, I would appreciate any information.

    1. Can Anyone Help
    2. dick scott
    3. Rejenia, I don't know if this will help or not. My mother was born in 1904 near Jeffs in the Chickasaw Nation. She got a delayed birth certificate later, and one of the proofs that was legally acceptable was the school enumeration. >From the Guide to the Historical Records of Oklahoma by Bradford Koplowitz--under Nowata County, p99: "Superintendent of Schools School Enumeration. Name of parent, name of child, date of birth, age and grade, alphabetical , 1912-1919." I have never researched these records, but I believe they are in the county courthouses. The County Superintendent of Schools no longer exists in most counties. It might be you would need a researcher to find these records. The address for the courthouse is: Nowata County Courthouse 229 N. Maple St., Nowata, OK 74048 (918)273-0175

    1. Planning a research trip
    2. Shelly Henley Kelly
    3. Hi, My husband and I are planning a research trip in mid-April to Oklahoma City, Shawnee (Potawatomie Co.) and Sulphur (Murray Co.). We are hoping to use county courthouses and any other research libraries to find out more information about several families that settled in these areas around the turn of the century. We are also planning to visit the Tribal Museum and Archives (?) for the Citizen Potawatomie Nation. Is there anyone out there who can give us first-hand suggestions for making this trip a success? I know that I need to contact each repository and find out their hours. I'm searching for death records, the usual vital records found in courthouses (deeds, wills, probates etc.) but I also need to know where a few cemeteries are in all three counties, so any advice is welcome. Names in our search (in case anyone is curious) include: CONNALLY, DEEN, MELOTT, GIERHART, and BERGERON. Thanks! Shelly Henley Kelly Galveston TX

    3. Governal, I came across a couple of Kitchens families in the Haskell Co. census. 1920 - Thomas W. 37, Jesse A. 30, James M. 37. 1910 - Wiliam 22. Thomas W. is part of my line. He married a Zinnie Lulu Trout from Stigler. I have reason to believe Zinnie's mother, Josephine Ely Trout was Native American and her husband John Henry Trout might have been also. I do not know at this point. Does any of this look familiar? Sharolyn

    1. Re: Dawes Rolls
    2. Sorry, I must have misunderstood the question. I am not aware of a part of NAIL that has the provision you mention--of a page by page display of any specific case file. If it is available I would also be interested in the location. I have seen page by page information related to Will Rogers and a couple of other case files that were included to show what a case file may contain. I have ordered six different case files from Ft. Worth and the information they contain is minimal but factual. Not anything as extensive as the Will Rogers file. There are two ways to access. One is to just enter the name in the top window. You may get far more hits than are really specific to your search. The second is to type dawes in the top window and the persons name in the bottom window. If you do this with Will Rogers you will get several hits that have links that say image. These will show what a case file may contain. I hope someone provides a location that will provide the WR type of information for any file.

    3. I am looking for my great great grandfather, Charles Batholomew KITCHENS b. 1839 GA. He was supposedly seen in Indian Territory sometime between 1870-1890 by a friend of his son in AR, Henry Lee Obediah KITCHENS. He told Henry he had seen his dad with an Indian wife who ran a hotel and that Charles ran a draying/braying business and that they had some kids. He had served in the civil war for the state of GA, 3rd GA Newton county young guards Vol INF Co. H. He didn't return home when the war was over, to Newton county, until some years later, stayed around a while (prob. getting divorce papers signed) and then left again. Henry b. 1864 never saw him again. I am looking for someone who knows any KITCHENS' in that part of OK who had an ancestors named Charles Bartholomew KITCHENS, son of Benjamin E. KITCHENS and Elizabeth PEAK of GA. Henry Lee's mother was named Elizabeth C. LUMSDEN KITCHENS and she moved her family, Julia L.
