I have attached the site where I found this partial census, FYI, but I would like to see more of it. Do you know where I could find this? Or if I go to the library, how would I ask them for help in this matter? I'm sorry I have so many questions, I know you are very busy. Thanks for your help. BFC

    3. BFC- There was also an 1885 Choctaw census! The 1900 census is for all of Indian Territory and another of Oklahoma (see maps). The I.T. census is on series #T623-1843 through 1854. Oklahoma 1900 census is on series #T623-1335 through 1353. There are Soundex available for each of those areas- Indian Territory is #T1082-1 through 42 and Oklahoma is on #T1066-1 through 43. The film may be ordered (purchase or rental) through AGLL (American Genealogical Lending Library) at the Heritage Quest site: http://www.heritagequest.com/ jc

Any help would be appreciated." I understand that the Choctaw Nation was not included in the 1890 census of Indian Territory, but there was an 1885 census done by the Choctaw Nation. I do not have that film. You would not look in "Oklahoma Territory", because the Choctaw Nation was not IN Oklahoma Territory. Alway check the maps shown on the OK USGenWeb site if you have any questions about locations in what is now the state of Oklahoma. Their net address for the maps is http://www.rootsweb.com/~okgenweb/maps/maps.htm jc

Thank you for reminding me. These territorial census are not as complete as the U.S. census- but they are "better than nothing". The Chickasaw Nation 1890 census has been published in several volumes, and I am sure that more of the nations will be published in the future. jc

Another Question There are 2 Lucy Harris (my Grandmother name) How do I find out which one if any is her"? Betty- Everyone was new at one time, and you are doing fine. To answer your questions, to find out if one of the Lucy Harris' is your grandmother- first you must research your own ancestor to firmly establish where your grandmother was living in 1906/09 (find her on the 1910 U.S. census) and what her age and name would have been at that time (example- was she married?). I looked into the records, and in 1909 both of these Lucy Harris were living in northeastern Oklahoma, so if your Lucy was living elsewhere- then there is little doubt that neither of these two were "yours". You can read the instructions to start tracing your grandmother at http://www.rootsweb.com/~cherokee/page_1.htm. Since we work backward in time (1920, 1910, 1900, etc), you will need to establish your family's location in 1830 & 1840 before the 1835 roll will do you much good. Good luck Jerri
