    2. Jim Reed
    3. Hi, I have been looking for my grandmother Martha Elizabeth Story's, mother and father. Martha or Mattie was b 1871-, her sister Sara Bernice Story Cochran b.1876-1969, might be a half sister. Their father was a William Story, b. approx 1855, but I don't know who he married. When Martha's first husband A E Jones, died she stayed with an "Aunt Julia Hildebrand Beck". I don't know if she was a real aunt or friend. I have searched this name and am familiar with the Beck mill and legend but have not found any connection even at the library in Colcord. And it was said that William lived near/with Sara in Jay/eucha/kenwood area but I cannot find the cemetery he was buried in or know what year he died. That's not much to go on, is it...These families seem to traverse back and forth between Kansas OK and Siloam Springs, AR. Open for suggestions on where to look next. deb

    1. [IT ROOTS] RE-LOOK UPS
    2. michael lipartito
    3. Hello List, To all of those who have requested look ups, I have recieved your request and am happy to help you all. It takes time however, so I ask for your patience. I enjoy doing these look ups and I hope they can help. I have done look ups on this list before but since there are new folks, I wanted to explain again what is contained in the Dawes Roll "Plus". I think it will help you if you understand what is contained in this document. I will quote what is written in the book because if I try to explain it I'll only end up confusing everyone. *S* Dawes Roll "Plus" by Bob Blankenship "1898 Dawes Roll "Plus" - The 1898 Dawes Roll plus Guion Miller Roll information for those that were on both rolls. One can look forward in time from 1898 to the 1906 Guion Miller Roll and see such things as a 1906 surname change brought about by marriage, divorce, or adoption. Also ages, addresses, relationships, Miller Roll number, Miller application number, etc. This, in addition to all information provided in the original 1898 Dawes Roll. All 36,714 Cherokee Nation Citizens of Cherokee Blood are included." When I give you information on a certain individual listed on this roll, there will be certain abbreviations I will translate them now for you. Dawes# = enrollment number on the Dawes Roll, mill. apl.= miller roll application number, BQ = blood quantum, milsurn= surname as it is listed on the Guion Miller Roll. I will get to all of these look ups as soon as I can and will look them up again once I can wrestle the Cherokee Roots vol1 back from my dad. Thank you also to those of you offering to help me with my searches. I will probably take you up on it and thank you. Take care and goodnight, Kristine

    2. Hi, I am fairly new to this list and usually just read the messages because I really do not have anything to contribute yet. There are some very knowledgeable people on this list and I thought they may be able to help. The surnames I am researching are WALLER, SQUIRES, BEARD, PLETCHER & SMITH. All in Oklahoma/IT. My question is does anyone know anything about the Sac & Fox Nation? I cannot find anything! Also, Yellow, thank you for your explanation on the Bowen & Ward families, my cousins are Bowens and still live in OKC. I am sorry I do not have any information for you, I will look. JC, thank you for the information about the Chickasaw & Choctaws. My Waller family lived in the Choctaw Nation, I will need to keep this in mind. Kristine, I did run into the NORWOOD name in Williamson County, TX. The next time I go to the website I will look at the information more closely. Thank you all for everything, Donna

    1. [IT ROOTS] WARD/MASSEY
    2. Does anyone have any information on a Mary Ward, married James Massey somewhere around 1860. they had a daughter named Julie Ann born in 1861. I have been given 3 different birth locations for Julie Ann; MO, IT, IL. I feel it was IT. She married Eligha Mitchell then John Wesley Young. She lived in the Sequoyah County area until her death in 1925. I know nothing about the whereabouts of her parents. I have no idea if there is any Indian blood in this family or not, but I was led to believe that this list for to research Indian Territory, not Indian blood. Do these names sounds familiar to anyone?

What would be the case to be "not always". Why would they be on the Choctaw Marriage List ??? This could apply to myself, as I found 4 of my maternal side on the choctaw marriage list, but still cannot find them on the census. A couple of years ago, you advise me to start with the census, but still have had no luck. I know where they were but cannot find them on the census. Thanks for the advice you gave to Diane as it may be a clue for me too. Bonnie

    1. [IT ROOTS] Jacksie Standing Turkey/Bowen?Ward
    2. Yellow .
    3. Does any one have info or know about a Jacksie Standing Turkey or the Capt. John Ward or Rees T. Bowen? Jacksie left the Cherokee Territory and headed back to Tennessee to his mothers around 1840's because of the Ridge and Ross fractions in the Nations. Jacksie was with the Ridge party but when his brother got murdered he headed back to Tennessee. On his way back to Tennessee he met up with the Bowens and Wards who were headed to the Nation to become citizens, invited there by an open invitation extended to the Cherokee's east by the Cherokee's west. After meeting Jacksie and hearing the trouble in the Nation the Bowen and Ward families decided to stop 50 miles from the Nation until all the trouble died down to where they thought it would be safe to go on in. But they ended up buying land in the county and never did go on in to the nation to be come enrolled there. 2. Kristine, Thanks for the offer of a look-up. I am researching surname DAVIS. Noticed your Thomas Davis was from TN. Do you happen to have children's names? I am looking for a Minnie Frances Davis born in TN 1871 who married Simpson Harris Baskin. First child Estelle Katharine Baskin born IT 1898. Minnie has been my brick wall for quite awhile. My grandmother always said she was part Cherokee, but I have not been able to find any documentation to the fact. Thanks so much for your time, Deborah Magnolia TX
