I'm for Jerri, she has helped me in the past with Holloway. I'm not to happy to have my computer lettered with soreheads. I would love to have a copy thank you! And thank you for the names, It never hit me to look for another name, and I should have because many had 3 and 4 names they went by. I must be having a dumb moment. <g> >From: Leo Cundiff <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Subject: [IT ROOTS] Re: Standing Turkey >Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 12:05:30 -0600 > >Standing Turkey also went by the names Oconostota >and Cunne Shote. I seen the date 1900's. So if they lived up till the time of the SS then Write SS and have them to pull their records and it will have where they were born. Plus if you have their death date then write to the funeral home or State where they died and have them to pull their death record. >From: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [IT ROOTS] Bird-creek family Muskogee Nation I.T. >Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 02:59:27 EST > >I was wondering if anybody had any information on the Bird-Creek family >from >Weleetka, I. DNA is not a full proof testing, plus can be doctored up to disprove if the Gov. so wants it to be! Genocide is still in the making against the American Indian/First Nations People. Why do you think the Gov. is wanting to move the blood quantum up to ONE HALF now? Think about it people. Get on a list of this type of talk and learn more because this list is genealogy and I'm sure the list owner would like to keep it that way. And please no more letters saying I'm evil or that I have a stone in my heart. I see fact and I know fact and I recognize fact and I don't hold back when I speak my mind. You get a straight shooter on thoughts when this ole Cherokee gal speaks. Go to egroup list for groups that talk of non-genealogy and of this. I am new to the list and would like to know if anyone knows whether there would be birth records (online) for Indian Territory from 1845 and beyond? Roxanne Haileselassie

Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Standing Turkey also went by the names Oconostota and Cunne Shote. I have a colored picture of a painting of him that I can send as an attachment, if anyone is interested. He was a sixth-greatgrandfather of mine. Leo
Brenda, Do you have "The Borens Past and Present" by Helen Meeks? She shows Nora and Esau (Tode and Sap) moving from Wynnewood, OK area to San Antonio, TX around 1923 where they separated. You didn't say if you have the Obit for Sap but if not this may be a lead. Just a thought. Jeannean in OK
Dear List , Someone once told me in a teachers education course that I took that there are no stupid questions only stupid persons . Thanks to Jerri Chasteen 3 years ago and the work she did in locating two private cemeteries , giving the locations and directions we were able to complete our Cherokee genealogy back to Amatoy Matoy 1640 . When we made the trip to visit those cemeteries we discovered first cousins that we knew nothing about. My husband lost 3 family members both parents ,before he was 5 years old and was raised by various elderly relatives. All of his life he has mourned his lack of family rootedness . Thank you Jerri , the information you gave us so very graciously and freely enabled us to reestablish long lost and extended family connections. We started our search for my husbands roots 3 years ago with a family bible and one cherokee roll # . My husbands deceased mother wrote down on a loose sheet in her bible the names of her maternal grandmothers ,not grandfathers ,back 4 generations.Fortunately for us those names appeared on most of the existing Cherokee rolls. But this would not have been possible without the help of persons like Jerri Chasteen and other volunteers who gave us our first critical information. Jerri , I salute you , Nell Coats [email protected] wrote: > In a message dated 2/11/01 4:56:34 PM Eastern Standard Time, > [email protected] writes: > > I also think that Jerri does a great job and helps a lot of people; however, > there are some that she blasts, like me and not because of any Dna stuff. DNA questions; how much does DNA testing cost? locations that they can be done in? I was told about this months ago, they said a person could find out more about their Cherokee heritage that way. To me that would be wonderful, that is if the tests wasn't so expensive. There are so many records that was thrown away or burned in fires, maybe that is the reason I cannot find out anything about my relatives. I also think finding out might help with diseases or ailments that our ancestors had that was passed on to us. I am sure if the government can have such reasons to have these test done, there will be something bad come out. In our newspaper this morning one person said that there could be discrimination based on our DNA findings. If anyone out there has any answers please feel free to respond to me, I would love to find out more plus tracing my ancestors seems to be a closed door. Wado, Agaliha99

Please can we get back to what we are here for, no more arguing? I thought most of us were adults who are entitled to their own opinion. Kathy

Sorry, but I don't have any information for you...but have a similar problem...I have found the grave of my ggrandfather, and after years of marriage and 10 children, he is buried alone a widower... I have reason to beleive my ggrandmother was at least 1/2 Indian....My question to the list is this....If in fact she was Indian, and wished to buried on a reservation with her family, was it allowed in the early 1920's for her husband, a white man, to be buried with her?...I have been told that it wasn't allowed, but the person that told me that wasn't sure.... I would appreciate it if someone could give me the answer...then I would have another place to search for her...... Thank you, Wilma Sanford [email protected]
