    1. [IT ROOTS] Kitchens/Wilson/Brown Genealogy
    2. Jim Brown
    3. Hi everyone! I posted a search on this site in January 2001 but I ran into a brick wall and need help!!!! I am still trying to find out more about my great grandmother Caroline Pearl? Wilson or Pearl Caroline Wilson. She was born 1890 or 1892 near Lindsay or Erin Springs, Indian Territory. She was supposed to have a roll number. Her mother Rebecca Pearl? Kitchens married James Wilson and was supposed to be American Indian. Rebecca was born in Texas but I don't know when and where and which Tribe she could have belonged to. James Wilson was born in Ireland (Scotch/Irish) and served during the Civil War for the Union. He was married before in Arkansas. But there are so many Wilson out there. Caroline's older brother was William Wilson born 1884, don't know where. Can only be Texas or Indian Territory. Her younger brother was Bryan Wilson born 1895. Rebecca died during Bryans birth. I don't know where they lived until 1910. They are named in the 1910 Census living in Harrison Township except James Wilson. He must have left after Rebecca died and the children lived with relatives. I've got some information about a Pearl Caroline Wilson, age 2, Chickasaw newborn. Census card #154 Dawes Enrollment # 134, but I don't have a date on this and don't know where to look up the newborn census. I know Caroline married Columbus Coleman Brown at Sandy Grove School, Grady County in 1911.She died 1941 and is buried in Washington, McClain County. Is there any way to trace birth records from 1884 - 1895 near Lindsay or Erin Springs? And how can I find out more about Rebecca Kitchens in Texas? I am new to this and don't know all the resources out there. Please!! any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jim

    1. [IT ROOTS] Wilkins Report by Noel Trout
    2. Hello All, I am looking for "Wilkins Report by Noel Trout." At one time I found this report on line and traced it to my great grandfather John Wilkins and his following generations which were very helpful. I was so excited to find this information. Now, I am unable to find this article on line and was hoping some of you could help me. I have a cousin who is just starting out and I thought this report would help him, as it has helped me. If anyone could furnish me with a site address, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance for your help. Billie

[email protected] wrote: "How may I find out information regarding my family who lived in East Tn, Carolina's and Ga? <snip>-- there are census of them but no death record. <snip>" If you have access to "Everton's Handy Book" (most libraries have them) you can check the specific counties and see when they started requiring the recording of death records (usually after 1900). Also see if the court house records even survived the Civil War and "Mother Nature's storms". An even better record (recorded VERY early) would be the Wills and Probate Records of the county. I've found a gold mine of information in those. Jerri Chasteen

    3. I see no reason for two more lists. If everyone who is on this list would go back and read the information when they subscribed, there would be none of the bickering that I have seen for the last week. Jerri C. is a most knowledgeable and helpful person. This is her list, she set the rules. I fully support her and thank her for all of her past efforts and hope that she gains the support of those who stay. I may drop off again because I am going on vacation and don't want a couple hundred messages waiting for me upon my return. But, if I do, I will re-subscribe and keep another copy of the instructions that Jerri tells people to read and keep. --This is in response to the snipped comments below. Keith Lowrey --->I have started two lists you might be interested in joining. One is for >those looking for Native ancestors in Indian Territory and the other is for >those looking for White ancestors in Indian Territory. >

    3. Hello, New to this list, and completely impartial to the current wars going on here. I have remained quiet to avoid any conflict with anyone. I am merely trying to learn as much as possible, without asking any questions that could be misconstrued by anyone, in hopes of avoiding any unnecessary or unwanted confrontations. I see messages from people that seem to be extremely satisfied with this list and the way it is presented, and messages from those who seem to be extremely unsatisfied with this list and the way it is presented. I have no opinion either way. I have recently been sent the following email, and in hopes of satisfying BOTH sides in the split faction here, I offer to present what I received. This way, those who wish to stay here may happily do so, and those who wish to go elsewhere may happily do so. I have no personal interest either way, and support neither faction. I merely want to try to learn what I can, where I can, while avoiding the conflict. So in an effort to hopefully please both sides, here is a peaceful option that was sent to me with the names removed to prevent another battle from breaking out. If you are interested, check it out, if not interested, do not. The idea was not mine, the below words are not mine, so please do not flame me personally, ESPECIALLY do not respond to this in THIS list, and do not reply to me via my personal mail. I want no part of any conflict, thank you. I merely see this as a peaceful option to BOTH sides of the conflict. Those who wish to stay, do so and be happy. Those who wish to leave, do so and be happy. ----- received message begins ----- Hi: I have started two lists you might be interested in joining. One is for those looking for Native ancestors in Indian Territory and the other is for those looking for White ancestors in Indian Territory. I certainly hope you join and tell your friends about the lists. These lists will be relaxed as long as no flaming goes on. The list mom is easy going and strives to be polite and friendly at all times, even when gritting her teeth! 1. [IT ROOTS] Re: Indian-Territory-Roots-D Digest V01 #23
    2. I am new at this search for my roots. I have been reading the Indian-Territory emails now for the past three months. It scares me to think that as people who are searching for their past, that we have not progressed to accepted others for who they are. We seem to be repeating many of the same prejudice as our ancestries did. I can't prove that my grandparents were part Indian. Yet, I know in my heart and mind that I am part of their heritage that they seemed so hard to hide, because of the prejudice of some people. As adults where does it end. I thought this web site was meant to help those of us, who hold that thin line of hoping one day to just prove that we are apart of the such a wonderful culture. Linda Missouri

It is important to request permission to cross onto their land, but I'd be shocked if it weren't granted. Good luck! LL Always seeking additional information re the McGHEES in IT: Ambrose McGHEE, m. Judith Cochran abt 1838-39, both traveled the Trail of Tears. Judith was Cherokee, still uncertain in what capacity Ambrose made the trip, but perhaps as a sutler. Ambrose's brothers John, Burton, Albert and Larkin were all in IT, too. John is said to have died at Ft. Gibson, no year given. He appears on the 1850 McDonald CO MO census, is gone from the 1860 census, though his wife is still there. I am particularly interested in learning something of John's death, though realize the chances of the details having been recorded are slim.

I will hopefully get the Cherokee Roots volume1 back tommorrow. My Mother and I are making a Tear Dress. I couldn't sew to save my life so she is helping. Thank goodness one of us knows what we're doing! Anyway, if I have somehow missed your request or if you have more please send them on. Take care and goodnight Kristine
