    3. Kristine, I appreciate your doing the lookup for us! You probably saw my post about James Jordan. Well, he had a son, some say named Freddy, some say named James, but he would have been born around 1897 to 1902 because their next oldest son was born in 1903. Freddy James (or James Freddy) only lived to be 4 or 5 years old. Because of his health, James and Frances told the family that they enrolled James Freddy so he could get health care (evidently he had health problems all his life). Now, are you willing to look up James Freddy or do we need more information. James and Frances were married in Cherryville Camp, IT, and as far as we know, lived in IT/OK all their lives. Thanks for any help! Or any ideas! 1. Fw: [IT ROOTS] JORDAN, NICHOLS
    2. Tsa na Jordan
    3. Hi, ya'll! I'm looking for information on my great grandparents, James J. Jordan and Frances Nichols Jordan who married at Cherryville Camp, IT in 1896. They lived in Featherston and Quinton also, then moved to a place just outside of Kiowa, OK. I would love to find James Jordan's parents names. I understand that he had at least one brother, but no one can remember his name. Some seem to remember that his parents were Jack and Sarah. James was born in Sallisaw IT in mid to late 1860s (can't find an exact date). James told very few except his own kids that they were Cherokee because he couldn't read and write and didn't want anyone to find out. At one time, the family says, James worked for the Cherokee Nation as a lawman/sherriff or something in law enforcement. James and Frances had 6 kids: Freddie or James was the oldest and he died very young; Claude was next oldest, then I don't know the order on the rest - Opal and Orfice were twins, Gladys, Jess(ie) W.. If anyone knows anything about them, please, please let me know. I've hit a brick wall on James and I'm hoping someone else knows something! Or even if you have any ideas on where to look! I'm running out of "maybes"! Thanks! 1. [IT ROOTS] Divorce in IT
    2. Everyone has been so good to help me that I was hoping someone would do it again. I am searching for records for a couple that were divorced sometime between 1890 and 1903 before statehood. They were in the area of Sallisaw. Since the court house has no records before statehood, where might they have gotten the divorce? Does anyone have any ideas? I'm wondering if they would have had to go to Ft. Smith. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The court house in Sallisaw was not much help at all. Thanks, Gloria

    3. Hello! I recently found the cemetery record of my (one-half) great aunt, Emma (Davis) Potes, who is buried at Sulphur, OK. Emma's mother was the sister of my great-grandmother, both of the sisters being married at different times to Tandy Walker Davis. Would like to ask a favor of some kind soul in the Sulphur area who might look up Emma's obituary. Hopefully it would list her mother's name and possibly even her maiden name. Emma died June 3, 1952 and probably would have been buried by the Dunn Mortuary. Thanks in advance to anyone that might help! --- James Davis --- [email protected] --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.

    2. I have the Dawes CD , that was put out by the "Oklahoma Historical Society". It lists all of the Dawes rolls, including the different tribes. (Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, Seminole, and Cherokee). It has each person's.... name, age,(at the time of the roll was taken), blood degree, gender, tribe, Census Card number, Dawes enrollment number, page number the enrollment number is located on. I would be glad to do look up's. You need to send the first and last name of the person, who was living around 1900, that you want me to look up for you. You can order the Dawes applications of your known ancestors from the Muskogee OK Library, The Oklahoma Historical Society or Tahlequah, but I would suggest that you also try to see a copy of "History of Adair County" (OK) where most of the largest of the Langley families settled. There are two page length rows of Langleys listed. Also check "History of the Cherokee Indians" by Emmet Starr. Good luck jc

    1. [IT ROOTS] Clarification about the Dawes Roll "plus"
    2. michael lipartito
    3. Hello List, Recently, I did a look up for a member of this list. When I offered to do look ups, I posted a description of what the Dawes Roll "plus" is and what it contains. That description came from the book itself. This particular look up caused a bit of confusion as this persons ancestor is on the Dawes Roll, but not in the document that I have. The reason for this is because this persons ancestors were not of Cherokee Blood. The Dawes Roll "plus" addresses only the Cherokee Citizens and only those that were of Cherokee Blood. The other four civilized tribes, the Choctaw, Creek, Chickasaw, and Seminole were not included. My husband, upon my request, read the description I initially gave all of you and agreed that it was not clear that only those of Cherokee Blood were included in the Dawes "plus" I apologize to the person with whom this point became apparent and hope this misunderstanding did not cause too much trouble. I apologize also if the description of the Dawes "plus" was unclear to anyone else. I am still happy to do any look ups for anyone wanting one. Kristine

Census card #154 Dawes Enrollment # 134 -- <snip> (my) Caroline married Columbus Coleman Brown at Sandy Grove School, Grady County in 1911." Jim- According to page 201 of the official "Final Rolls of the Five Civilized Tribes" (published by the U.S. government and not a copy or transcribed version), the Chickasaw Newborn's ages were calculated "As at March 4, 1905" and since this person was shown as two years old, she would have been born in 1903/04. If your ancestor married in 1911, then I think we would be safe to presume that this is not your ancestor. In 1911 she would have been only 8 years old. Have you tried the 1900 U.S. census of Indian Territory? jc

    3. Paula, <the book you mentioned. Is it about the CURREYs?> No, it is funeral records in Southwest City, MO. <Let me know where your Currey bunch may have originated> My G-grandfather was Samuel, b. 1843. My family have been searching for something on this line and have kept hitting a brick wall. His name had been listed as GW Currey or George Washington. I just recently got his confederate pension papers and his name is listed as Samuel. His father and mother first show up in Missouri in the early. According to an older family member they had a large family of which Samuel was the youngest. We haven't been able to find them on any census for that area. A cousin has paperwork that shows their names were George Washington Curry b. TN m. Elizabeth Jennings. b. GA. I saw a marriage record somewhere yesterday for a William Currey & Elizabeth Ivey. I have been backtracking trying to find it again, think it must have been yours. I'll keep looking :) Our Currey's are the same, spelled Curry/Currey. Any of this connect with yours? Else

The problem is-- I didn't get volume PAL-00011, and according to the Master Index-- I need it!
