    1. Re: [INDIA-ROYALTY] Diwan Jarmani Dass' sponsored writing
    2. I have a copy of LIVES OF THE INDIAN PRINCES, by Charles Allen and Sharada Dwidvedi, and I will turn to that next as both authors are recommended by the group. I looked up all three authors on www.bookfinder.com, the best source I know of for out-of-print books, and found no relevant title by Ian Copeland. But Charles Allen has written lots of books about India and Africa under British rule, and I will explore these. Many thanks for the suggestions, and any others that may come to mind (recommendations of scholarly books welcome as well as popular ones). This book was infact "commissioned" by the congress party. It was direct result of the 1967 elections, in which the "princes revolt" had wiped out congress in several states. The whole purpose was to create an anti-princes atmosphere, leading to the abolition of princely order. Apart from Sharada Dwivedi's book , this fact is also mentioned in Ian Copeland's book on the princes. --- Epicure <shyamofindia@hotmail.com> wrote: > Even if the price factor is negated, and all that > Dewan Jermany Das has > written is true, the former Royals of India were > miles better than the > political Royals of today! > Before I open my box in support of what I said > about the said author, I > recommend Charles Allen and Sharda Dwivedi to be > contacted as they also have > much on them to prove my contention that the Book > was motivated and > sponsored.
