>From Orissa, I know that Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajpati of Parlakhemundi, the first Prime Minister of Orissa had quite a presence at Madras. Parlakhemundi was part of the erstwhile Madras Presidency. I think they still have a lot of property at Chennai. One Road at Chennai is named after the family deity Manikeshwari. The two grandsons of the Maharaja live there. The elder one Raja Gopinath Gajpati is a fromer member of the Lok Sabha. The family was also into horse racing and there used to be a Parlakhemundi Cup. My father Late Raja Jagannath Rajmani Raj Deo of Manjusha (also known as Mandasa - Madas Presidency) studied in Madras Christian College till 1939 and had to return because he became a full fledged Raja in 1940. There was no property. He used to hire houses during his stay. I have seen a group photograph dated 1940 or 1942 at the Manjusha Palace showing him at the centre as President of Madras Oriya Samaj. Prior to my father, my grandfather and great grandfather Capt. Raja Srinivas Rajamani Raj Deo and Raja Basudev Rajamani Raj Deo, used ot visit Madras regularly Regards B.K.Singh Deo I also think the Khallikote, Jeypore and Kurruppam Royal families had a oresence at Madras around the time that you have mentioned. The Raja of Jarada (A Zamndari of Orissa) had also married a French Lady who was recognized as the 2nd Queen and had a house at Paris which his successor gave to the Lady as a settlement. Can someone locate this house ? and also find out as to who are the present owners and occupants. It is said that it was close to Baroda House at Paris.
