Hi, Correction, they are not Thakurs of Nagaur thikana but of Kalvi thikana which i believe happens to be in Nagaur district. Nagaur was under many people from time to time including Marwar, Kasli etc On Tue, Jul 29, 2008 at 9:45 PM, Arjun <arjun@thesetufoundation.com> wrote: > Dear Everyone, > > Last evening, I had the pleasure of meeting Shri Lokendra Singh Kalvi, son > of late Shri Kalyan Singh Kalvi, Thakurs of Nagaur thikana. > Today a prominent Rajput leader, Kalvi sahib kept us spellbound with his > erudition and perspective in fields as diverse as wildlife, > non-conventional > energy forms and politics of today. > Interesting were his reminisces of shooting trips with Digvijay Singh > (Diggi > Raja) of Raghogarh. Hi Shantanu, Thanks for correcting me. I did my own history research yesterday (meaning that I googled for it) and noted that as you said Nagaur changed hands several times during history. Starting initially as a Muslim state. But on checking for Kalvi, I see that there is no mention of it on the site. Maybe Ill just pick up the phone and ask him. regards Arjun Nayar Coordinator - Resource Mobilisation The SETU Foundation Ph & Fax: + 91 11 22711928 Mobile: +91 98734 45354 www.thesetufoundation.com -----Original Message----- From: india-royalty-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:india-royalty-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Shantanu Shekhawat Sent: Thursday, July 31, 2008 1:59 AM To: india-royalty@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [INDIA-ROYALTY] Nagaur Hi, Correction, they are not Thakurs of Nagaur thikana but of Kalvi thikana which i believe happens to be in Nagaur district. Hello All, Can anyone explain why the princely state of Baoni, MP with a small area of 313 sq kms area, no special pedigree in ancestry that we know of and no particular affiliation to the brits, (absence of telltale signs such as knighthoods or titles) should enjoy a privy purse of 520,000 with 11 guns? TO put this in perspective, this is the same privy purse accorded to Alwar, with a far more ancient lineage, supposedly a descendant of Lord Ram, with 17 guns and an area almost 20 times that of Baoni. Clearly there has to be something to it. I can understand that the ruler may have enjoyed a special relationship with the brits which was what got him his 11 guns in the first place. But why would the Indian govt. give him such a large privy purse? Which as I understand is calculated on 2-3 counts such as size of state, revenue, lineage etc. Would be very grateful if anyone can throw some light on this. regards Arjun Nayar Coordinator - Resource Mobilisation The SETU Foundation Ph & Fax: + 91 11 22711928 Mobile: +91 98734 45354 www.thesetufoundation.com
