    3. Hi Rahul   Thanks for the line sorry couldn't get back 2 u yesterday.   Current Rajmata sahib of Jaipur - Gayatri Devi or Aiysha as was her original name of the Cooch Bihar family was married to the late Swai Maharaja Man Singh II of Jaipur.   Swai Maharaja Man Singh II is an adopted son he was orginally born a shepherd Morpat Singh.   Gayatri Devi was in Parliament as one of the founder members of the Swatanra Party and she and Mrs. Indira Gandhi - two well breed ladies from big families used to oppose each other.   But Mrs. Gandhi had - to the best of my knowledge - never stood for elections - Parliamentary - from where Gayatri Devi was contesting and the two ladies - with many things in common and similarities in their up bringing and childhood have been pitched against each other on various other occasions but never contested an election / Parliamentary seat against each other.   Regards   Andy   ( MKr. 3. If I am not mistaken, Rajmata Gayatri Devi had won by the highest margin in the country for a Lok Sabha Poll. This record was broken later by Shri Ram Vilsa Paswan in Bihar in 1977. 3. Hello all, Not wishing to ruffle any feathers, but calling the late Indira Gandhi a lady, is stretching the definition a bit far. Its true that the two were contemporaries and as Andy pointed out they did not contest from the same constituency, but there is little doubt about their fierce rivalry, or to do the Rajmata justice, the fierce competitiveness in Mrs Gandhi which made her see (then) Maharani Gayatri Devi as a rival. I think there is little doubt that Mrs Gandhi was behind Gayatri Devi's 5? Month long incarceration in Tihar Jail on some absurd trumped up charges following her win by record margin at the elections (don’t know which). Seeing how Mrs Gandhi extracted her pound of flesh for the 'slight' the Rajmata must consider herself fortunate that she didn’t have the temerity to challenge Mrs Gandhi on her home turf. Amethi if I'm not mistaken.
