At the inauguration of movie shooting, the daughters of Maharani Vijay Raje, namely Vasundhara and Yahodhra were present. SO the family is appreciative of the movie since the story has written by a family associate. In case of Zubeida, the story was written by her son from previous marriage so the royal family had some reservations. However, the movie was a modferate success, more due to music and top actors rather than the story. Wasn't there some threats of legal action when Zubeida was filmed. BTW how was that movie received by the movie going public? The Raja of Jarada (A Zamndari of Orissa) had also married a French Lady who was recognized as the 2nd Queen and had a house at Paris which his successor gave to the Lady as a settlement. Can someone locate this house ? and also find out as to who are the present owners and occupants. It is said that it was close to Baroda House at Paris. As per my knowledge, there were following palaces-mansions in Madras 1. Ramalayam, the travancore palace at adyar which still exists. 2. Jeypore Palace, now a luxury boutique. 3. Arni House, of jagirdars of Arni. 4. Vizianagaram Palace 5. Pithapuram House. Most big jagirdars of Madras had homes in Madras. --- On Thu, 10/16/08, BIKRAM KESARI SINGH DEO <bksinghdeo@gmail.com> wrote: > From: BIKRAM KESARI SINGH DEO <bksinghdeo@gmail.com> > Subject: Re: [INDIA-ROYALTY] (no subject) > To: india-royalty@rootsweb.com > Date: Thursday, October 16, 2008, 11:30 AM > >From Orissa, I know that Maharaja Krushna Chandra > Gajpati of Parlakhemundi, > the first Prime Minister of Orissa had quite a presence at > Madras. > Parlakhemundi was part of the erstwhile Madras Presidency. > I think they > still have a lot of property at Chennai. It appears that there appears to have been some compromise between the heirs of the maharaja of sirmur, Udai Prakash and Maharani of Jaipur. The palace has been divided. Check out the article: http://northernlines.in/2008/09/14/religious-function-royal-palace/
Hi The beautifull actress Hema Malini will play the role of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia. And guess who will play the role of Jiwajirao Scindia --- Vinod Khanna. I think this appears to be biggest bollywood movie on royalty after Zubeida (I chose to ignore Akbar-Jodha). http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Entertainment/India_Buzz/A_royal_challenge/articleshow/3580391.cms http://www.telegraphindia.com/1081014/jsp/frontpage/story_9965780.jsp My Comments: I think Hema Malini is a great actress and the director also appears to be good. What makes is a little sad is that aishwarya rai and flop director JP Dutta will make a movie on Maharani Gayatri Devi. JP Dutta is really bad as far as historical accuracy is concerned. About Aishwarya Rai, that is the worst thing you can do to Rajmata. Once Indira Gandhi had called her "Kaach ki Gudiya" (glass doll) . Now an actress who has expressions of a real glass doll and really bad acting skills will be portraying her. All said and done, my best wishes to Hema Malini and the Producers.

I identify her as Kumari Devinder Kaur [aka Princess Wendy], born 1942, married 1965 (div.), a Greek gentleman, and has issue, one daughter, born in 1967! (unmarried), so who is Harminder Kaur, she looks to be too young to be Pcss Wendy's biological daughter, perhaps adopted? , or a grand-daughter? Any clues? Cheers, Henry

Hi Henry Over the last few days a lot of history got dug up regarding Indians royalty in the East - particulary the state of Ulpur and its zamindaris. The Ulpur site and the Ulpur Yahoo group - thanks to Gregor's efforts has been responsible for th good work. Much of the history has relevance to other states / erstwhile ruling / priencly states / zamindaris / thikanas as well. I have requested Gregor to ensure that the link with the Indian Royalty site and mailing list and the ulpur yahoo list is there. It would be kind if you could help as well Regards Andy ( MKr. The only details that I have are as follows... * Raja MAHIPAT SINGH fl.1857 * Raja BIJAI SINGH -/1867, married a daughter of Raja KRISHNA DUTT SINGH of Bhinga, and had issue. He died 1867. * Raja PARBAL PRATAP SINGH 1867/-, born 20th August 1867, title was formally recognised as hereditary in 1889; married the second daughter of Raja SHEOPAL SINGH of Murarmau. Nothing more recent, hopefully someone on this list may have a bit more info. Kind regards, Henry
Dear Mr. Henry, I wish to know about Malajani family, was it a state or thikana? Would you pleasse give me details of it's past n present? regards.....Rao Shiv
