Julian Gardner, born c1941, an Anglo-Indian, may be heir to the dormant Barony of Gardner of Uttotexeter, though he can't afford to have his claim recognized by the appropriate body. He apparently descends from Padshah Shah Alam II (1729-1806), via his son Shahzada Mirza Suleiman Shikoh (+1838), whose daughter married James Valentine Gardner (+1845). Anyone have further details of the Gardner-Mughal marriage? Cheers, Henry PS Have added a new page on the Thikana of Churhat in Rewah.

Greetings, A little while ago, mention was made for the new website of the Chhota Udepur family. Sadly HH Maharana Virendrasinhji, passed away on Monday 27th June 2005 at Jaipur. Presumably his eldest son will become the new Maharana. The website has not yet been updated with this information. Many thanks to Pabitra for notifying us. Kind regards, Henry

Information is as follows... Jhajjar was originally given to the Nawab of Farukhnagar, but he was unable to control it adequately, so somehow it went to Nawab Nijabat Ali Khan, who was one of three brothers (father unknown to me), the second brother, Nawab Ismail Khan Lohari, received Bahadurgarh, forfeited in 1857, the third brother, Nawab Fa'iz Talab Khan, was the first Nawab of Pataudi. Nawab Nijabat Ali Khan was followed by Nawab Faiz Muhammed Khan, ruled 1813/1835, succeeded by his son (name unknown to me), who ruled 1835/1845, succeeded by Nawab Abdulrahman Khan, ruled 1845/1857, executed for his part in the Indian War of Independence (the Mutiny),and his state was forfeited. He died 23rd December 1857 in Delhi. Presumably there are descendants, though I have no record of them. Any information would be most welcome. Good luck. Cheers, Henry

I had seen this gentlemans claim before, though the online article did not give his line of descent from the last Padshah. There's a couple of problems here as I see, firstly I find it difficult to believe that 46 children were somehow done away with, without history making some sort of record of it. I know that Hodgson apparently muredered some 11 close members of the family, but there's no hint of such a wide scale crime. Many members were exiled or fled to Nepal, which possibly may account for the apparent loss. Secondly, 'Prince' Yakub's father was a maternal grandson of Mirza Gaffar, so that doesn't entitle him to anything at all. Though, if memory serves me correctly, the article suggested that 'Prince' Yakub was of Mughal descent on both sides of his family. If so, why wasn't his paternal descent mentioned? I'll make a note of it, but with a generous pinch of salt. Interesting nonetheless. Cheers, Henry

Also Hardayal Singh was never Rao Raja of Sikar as he predeceased his father in 1958, and his father died the following year. Apparently prior to his death he adopted a nephew as his successor., though there is no indication of exactly how he was related, except that maybe he was from Deeppura. The Sikar page has been updated, thanks to Pabitra. Cheers, Henry
