Hazel Craig I think you mean that there were famines in the Indian sub-continent - made up of self-governing territorial states. There was no nation of 'India' before the British 'colonialists'. I wonder how many years would have passed (otherwise)before the sub-continent became a unified nation? Please correct me if I am mistaken. I have long asked the question and mean no offence.
