I understand that today's Chennai Internation Airport was formerly an airfield constructed by the U.S. forces during WW2. This is right alongside St. Thomas' Mount which was a very significant Indian Army station. I imagine that a few American soldiers were based there too. Good Hunting! Esther - When our family were being demobbed in 1947, we passed through various camps. The one at Deolali was well equipped and run by Americans. They were not at Connaught camp at Delhi and again, not at Colaba - last camp before embarkation. They passed through the Red Road Camp at the end of the maidan in Calcutta where my grandfather was stationed Fort William/Movement Control. I remember seeing Tommies and troops from the Cameroons (I believe) all going over 'the hump' into Burma? Corrections welcome. Sally Stewart. Sally
