I have recently discovered from burial records that both my grandfather (Christopher Burke Mayes) and grandmother (Pearl Ellen Isabel Mayes nee Stevens or Stephens) died in Lucknow of gunshot wounds at the age of 24 on 29 August 1919. My father was then aged four. This was shortly after the infamous Amritsar massacre of April 1919. My grandfather was an electrical engineer (I think concerned with hydro electricity generation around Simla) but there is some unreliable evidence that he was, in 1908, involved with the Lucknow Volunteer Rifles. I am very interested to find out more about the circumstances and I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a particular Lucknow newspaper that would likely carry a report of the event. Perhaps there would be a coroner's or other official report but I don't know where to look. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
