There is already a fictional ghost of Gandamak in our midst. Fans of George MacDonald Fraser's Flashman will remember that the famous Flashy had named his mansion in England after Gandamak. After all, he was a part of the British troops that had fought the First Anglo-Afghan War. And now we are going to have this new book by William Dalrymple on the First Anglo-Afghan War.
