Hello List Sue, the Wikipedia article “History of the rupee” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_rupee quotes one rupee equal to 23 ⅛ pence in 1871. My impression is that up until that time one rupee was equal to two shillings, or ten rupees to the pound.
