Usually these records have some reference to wives and children, so you might find something there, if this is your man. I could not find any reference in the British Army Overeas Chaplains' Returns, or in the India records on Family Search If Martha was born in India, and the marriage took place in India, there is perhaps a possibility she did not die but remained in India when her husband returned to England.
