Does anyone have access to 1) a history of the above, and/or 2) records for the above? A 2002 post shows that there are records held by the community (http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/INDIA/2002-09/1031947746) I know from research (on the web and via print books) that C Troop formed in 1805 as the Rocket Troop Madras Horse Artillery. Also, that it saw time in China during the Opium Wars, and the second Burma War. Gaps in my ancestor's 10 child timeline (as built from Family Search data) suggest that he saw time in both arenas; possibly also in the Sikh wars of 1845-49, and the second war in China (1856-59). It also appears he left the service after the Mutiny and the restructure of the armies in 1858. My ancestor is Thomas CRONAN. I found a FIBIS record showing his marriage in 1839 at St Thomas Mount, Madras. He died in 1875 in Madras. My goal is to learn more about C Troop, and to determine where in Ireland Thomas CRONAN came from. If no-one can assist, I understand my best course of action is to access documents at the National Archives in Kew, and the British Library (India Office) in London. All advice welcome.
