Peter Many thanks for the information on Ships Journals. You have jogged my memory and looking through my papers on Thomas Clarke I have just found notes referring to Ships Journals IOR/L/Mar A-B 1605-1856. I now recall that you gave me this lead some years ago which I followed up and I subsequently found the following reference: Royal Admiral 1786-1788(1) IOR/L/MAR/B/338D (Journal), 338N (1)( Ledger) 3338N(4)( Imprest.) Would these have been three separate files? As far as I can remember I didn't find any list of names but perhaps I didn't pursue it far enough or ran out of time.. I probably went off on another search and poor old Thomas Clarke was left on hold. So I shall have to try to get up to the India Office and have another go. Regards Marion
