Specifically there was a mention of Allen's Indian Mail for a year or two. When I looked at the site, I found many issues, from 1845 to 1891. (approx) Each of these has entries for domestic occurrences (BMD) the information is self reported, but it is contemporary &, for example, for deaths, the husband is often mentioned. --ooOoo-- May I point out that FIBIS is currently transcribing for our database the complete run of "Domestic Occurrences" from a set of Allen's Indian Mail which is available from the Cambridge University Library. We have so far published from 1845 as far as 1870. If any lister would like to help with this or similarly valuable work, which we make feely available on our website, may I ask them kindly to contact me? Good Hunting!
