I have been researching my 4 times Great Grandfather Colour Sergeant Robert Gillingham of the 2nd Battalion 10th Regiment of Foot and have the following confirmed information. On 7th February 1867 the said Robert Gillingham (aged 35 years) married a Cathering Keoling (aged 15) and each gave their residence as Bangalore [ IOR Z/N/2 vol 48 Folio 62 ]. Robert’s Rank is given as ++ Serj 2/10 regt { ++ as the record I have is obscured }. Almost a year later the couple registered the birth on the 14th January 1868 of Alfred Henry Gillingham (Roberts rank given as Cr Serjt) where the place of birth is given as Trimelgherry. The birth certificate also gives the following army staff information. Name of the Chaplin is given as J M Bachero RCP. The signature of the Adjutant is given as George Hood Lieut & Adjutant 1/10th Foot. I hope this is useful information and also that it might prompt some replies that will add to my information.
