Ian, There were (at least) two other children. Agnes Louisa Gillingham, baptised 27 Jul 1869 at Trimulgherry; Edith Gillingham, born 1 Nov 1870, baptised 20 Nov 1870 at Trimulgherry. It would be worth obtaining the baptism records for these children. Robert's father was an Albert Gillingham. The Worldwide Army Index 1861 on FindMyPast does have a Robert Gillingham, Corporal 274, with the 1st Battalion, 10th Foot at Aldershot. This might be your man? However, I cannot find any "discharge to pension" papers for him. On this site http://www.soldiersofthequeen.com/India-WilliamHenryWherry.html you can see the movements of a fellow sergeant in the 10th. The 2nd Battalion appears to have left India in 1873 and returned home. As far as I know they were on garrison duties there, and not involved in any fighting. Therefore no medals. Noel
