Hello List Further to what Liz advised Warren, there was an Anglo-Indian Force raised during the First World War. This is mentioned in the FIBIS Fibiwiki page "First Word War" section "Anglo-Indians" http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=First_World_War#Anglo-Indians or http://tinyurl.com/ccymykr There is a book at the British Library called "The Anglo-Indian Force, 1916" (Allahabad), 1918, reference IOR/L/MIL/17/5/4318, (which is mentioned in the footnotes of the Fibiwiki page) If there is a connection between John Harold ABBOTT and this Force, you would expect it would be mentioned in this book. Cheers Maureen From: "Liz Chater" < [email protected]> Subject: [INDIA] John Harold ABBOTT O.B.E. Date: Sat, 4 May 2013 09:09:59 +0100 I saw your message Warren and did a quick search of The Times newspapers...... The other reference is: The Indian Domiciled Community.. The Times (London, England), Tuesday, Aug 20, 1912; pg. 3; Issue 39982. (1003 words) With the headline "The Indian Domiciled Community. Regiment to be Formed" "....in the present instance Mr. Abbott has taken steps to receive the names of suitable persons willing to recruit and the Government of India now see their way as an experiment to raise an "Anglo-Indian" regiment of 500 men...." I'm sure with further investigation you will find the reason behind him being awarded the O.B.E., but my guess is something to do with the forming and development of the "Anglo-Indian" regiment....
