In answer to Leonie's question. I located a digitised copy of 'Dehra Dun - Past and Present', a guide to Dehra and the Doon district written in 1929 by a Captain O. E. S. Power, and have downloaded it page by page (all 116 pages) and re-compiled it into a single .pdf document of 4.6MB. I've also bookmarked the file as I went through it. Unfortunately some pages were missed in the digitisation procedure, but it does allow us to conclude that were three hotels in the town at that time - the Royal (formerly known as the Northern), the Alexandra and the Gresham. The Victoria is mentioned, but in such a way to strongly suggest that it had closed by 1929. The book is a strange little document; it is deficient in that it has no map, nor a list of European residents. Nevertheless it might be useful to anyone who has an interest in the town. If you have a genuine overwhelming urge to possess a copy of this document, I can send it to you as an e-mail attachment, but please contact me off-list - remember, though, it is 4.6 MB. This offer is open for a limited time only. If anyone from FIBIS administration is interested and reading this, I could burn it on to a CD for the Society and send it to you. Even dress it up a bit with a nice cover! Noel
