Dear List, I am looking for help in my research of my ancestors in India in the 19th and 20th century. My grandfather was Oslin Alfred RODRIGUES, b. 14 Jan 1911 in Calcutta to Robert O’Dell RODRIGUES and Virginia Mary or Marian D’ROZARIO. My grandfather married Dorothy Agnes GREGORY (b.25 Nov 1916) when they changed their name to ROBERTSON and then moved to the UK in 1959. On Oslin’s certificate of baptism, Robert’s occupation is given as Carriage Inspector for the Eastern Bengal State Railway, Damukdia, Bangledesh. I have not been able to trace any record of Robert O’Dell RODRIGUES’ birth but there is a record on FamilySearch which shows he died on 7 Nov 1927 in Calcutta and was aged 67, therefore born in 1860. However from marriage records his year of birth is shown as 1863. I believe that he was married 3 times, the first wife was to Grace Elizabeth D’ROZARIO, birth and marriage dates unknown, but they had 4 children the first of which was born in 1893. Grace died 28 Jul 1906 in Calcutta and Robert then married her sister Virginia Marian (b.1881) on 14 Nov 1906 in Bowbazar. She was born 1881 and died 27 Oct 1916 after childbirth of 6th child. Robert then married Selina GANMISSE (or GAUMISSE?) (b. 1859) on 1 Dec 1917 in Sealdah. She survived Robert and died 29 Dec 1939 in Calcutta. FamilySearch actually shows her surname as RODRIGUES when she married Robert and that she was widowed and from this I believe she previously married a William Arthur RODRIGUES (b.1851) on 25 Nov 1892 in Boitakhana. I do not know if this is part of the same Rodrigues family. Robert’s father was Jacob RODRIGUES but I have no other information for him. Grace and Virgina’s father was William D’ROZARIO but again I have no other information for him. Many thanks Mike Robertson
