    1. [INDIA] Question regarding conduct warranting "Remanded to..."
    2. Ainslie via
    3. Greetings to all I was researching a twig on the family tree (brother to my husband's 2 x great grandfather) who I discovered entered the service of the HEIC Madras army in 1839, then aged 15 years. His record in the Madras Register of the European Soldiers shows that he was a QMS to the 47th Native Infantry "remanded to the Artillery in 1854 as Gunner" The record further states that he was in the 3rd Battalion Artillery, and invalided out in October 1856. >From baptismal records of his children he is shown to be serving in various regiments: Corporal, Madras 3rd Battalion Artillery (1843) QMS, 1st Native Light Cavalry (August 1852) Gunner, 4th Battalion Artillery (October 1854) What manner of misconduct would warrant the "remanded to..." and the demotion? Would this have been the subjected of a Court Martial, and are there likely to be any records available? Or will we just have to speculate and wonder??? Regards Ainslie Sharpe
