It was frequently that a girl married at 14 years old especially if her father was in the army. The allowance for a child stopped when that child became 14.  The boys often went into the army as cadets and the girls were married off.  My great, great, great grandmother was married shortly before her 14th birthday, but it gave her age as 14 on the marriage certificate.
