    1. [INDIA] Maiden or Married Name?
    2. Sue Gutheridge via
    3. Hi Everyone, I think I have asked this before a long time ago when I was first starting this incredible journey, but cannot remember the answer. Could anyone tell me if a woman would use her birth name or married name if she became a widow and remarried. I can not find any info on my Gt x 3 Grandmother apart from she is named as Margaret Wilcox (widow) on the marriage certificate to Henry George Wilcox, Corporal Engineer Belgaum 1839 she was born 1819 died 1880 Baroda. Any idea how I can find more info. Thanks so much Sue

    3. I think her name was Wilson not Wilcox. The marriage certificate should have her father's name.  If it is not Wilson, then there has been at least one marriage. One of mine used her Maiden Name, stated widow, she was in fact divorced. If you do need to check for prior marriages, look first at the dates close to her marriage.  Frequently if a husband was killed whilst serving in the army, the widow remarried within weeks.  It was a matter of survival. ________________________________ From: Sue Gutheridge via <india@rootsweb.com> To: "india-l@rootsweb.com" <india-l@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, 25 March 2015, 16:08 Subject: [INDIA] Maiden or Married Name?
