It's always dangerous to generalise, but ....... Presbyterian marriages were frequently held in the manse (minister's home) or some other private house. It was much more unusual for a Church of England or Roman Catholic marriage to be celebrated in private houses, as there was a need to use consecrated premises (Church, Chapel). However, there are always exceptions, and different practices may have prevailed in different times and places.
