    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: sylcec Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.asia.india.general/2915.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: You can find Arthur's service record on Findmypast. He attested on 28 Oct 1864 at Chelmsford. He was 5' 9" tall with dark hair and eyes and a dark complexion! Had some periods of desertion for which he was tried and rank forfeited. But eventually restored/promoted to former rank and pay. Promoted to Sergeant 1 Apr 1875; episodes of drunkenness later, He continued to serve at least up to 1890. Discharged 30 Dec 1890. His first service took him to Canada in 1865, back in England 1869, then left for India 2 Nov 1876. So he could have married Ann in any of those countries. Children are listed, and as the eldest seems to be Emma b. 5 Nov 1878, he probably did marry in India, but possibly in England. Have attached a page from service record which includes movement and family summary info. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [INDIA] Advice about Col. Thomas Barrett
    2. Ed Storey via
    3. Several old publications talk about Col. Barrett being a special counselor to the Nabob Omdat ul Omrah. Barrett, born in 1765 died about 1801. He seems to have been Portuguese & was given 41 villages upon the death of the Nabob. there are several accounts of his legal disputes that seemed to end in his favor. His family lived at St. Thome' Madras. I can find him in old legal publications but nowhere else. I am trying to learn more about him and his family. If anyone has any advice, I would most appreciate it. I have been looking at HEIC army records, Crown army records and HEIC servant records without success. Not everyone calls him a Colonel. As an aside I have a copy of the 1799 Civil Servant list as a PDF that I would be willing to send to anyone who sends me their email addr.
