    1. [INDIA] JOINT BAPTISMS

    3. My g-g-grandparents were married in St John's Cathedral, Calcutta, and I have traced 14 children, all christened, but five of the later ones were christened on the same day. I think sometimes it may have been just overlooked when there were so many children in the family. Or possibly because my G-g-grandfather was Protestant, and his wife Greek Orthodox and there might have been an argument about christening. G-g-grandmother was definitely given funeral rites by the Greek Orthodox Church. In all these cases, the mother was a 'native woman' and her name was seldom mentioned in the baptism registers. I am not sure if that was the rule or was practiced by the Clergy. It is definitely not clerical error. Also, in most cases, these baptisms were done privately, not during the Church Service, as was normally done.
