Karen, Could it be that your ancestor had just embraced Christianity and therefore could be married and have her children baptised in a Christian Church? Cheers. Jill >>snip<< My GGGG Grandmother was Anglo Indian and the records I have showed that they married on the Saturday and had all there 7 children christened on the Sunday. Think it was quite normal back then and also possibly they lived quite a distance from a church or mission and maybe that also contributed to this happening. Regards Karen NZ
Agree that it was quite common for marriage to take place after birth of child or children. I think that if I was to check all families in India in my wife's tree I might find that it was more common than marriage first. My guess is that couples were not church goers when they had children and later decided to marry and the church then persuaded them to have their children baptised.
