I am trying to find George Scammell Manns in the Army in India. I know he married in Delhi in 1864 and had a daughter Francis Ann Manns 18/1/1865 Dehli. The family then took a boat from Ceylon to Australia arriving in Melbourne in 1865. In papers and in oral history he said that he was in the army in India and reached the rank of Colonel but I can't find hide nor hair of him in any capacity in the country. He was born in Wiltshire in 1833 so must have gone to India by ship. Again I have not been able to find him as a passenger nor have I been able to find any thing about his wife Jane M. Alsop who was born in abt 1832 in Norfolk, England. What was she doing in India and how did she get there.. I have their begginings and their ends but that chapter is a deep dark mystery that is driving me potty. I suspect that he was telling porky's when he stated that he was a Colonel but can't prove it one way or another.. Can you point me in the right direction as India is an unknown area o research to me. Cheers fro Australia. Pat
