Dian Elvin 06/09/2015 To: india@rootsweb.com It must be wonderful to have these records. My Gt Gt Gt Grandmother was the daughter of an unknown Indian lady and Major Condell of the HEICS. Mary Agnes Alexander Condell, their half-indian daughter was born in Bangalore around 1829, but I have not been able to find any record of her parents marrying let alone any baptisms. She had a brother born around 1830 - not sure where. Major Joseph Alexander Condell of the HEICS, was based in Madras. I have all his army records but no mention of family at all that I can find. He returned to England with the children in 1836, left them with his sister in Staffordshire, and then married a young woman in Aberdeen. He did not mention his Indian children, only his Scottish sons, in his will. The India List have heard this too many times, but when I saw that James Sinclair lived in Bangalore I thought I would mention it again! Dian Oxfordshire
