    3. Sylvia, Yes I think he did marry Elizabeth Pickard and that he died in Monghyr.I picked up the 67th BNI reference from the 1829 marriage of Martin Pickard and Elizabeth Bezel where Elizabeth Bezel is stated as residing in the residence of Robert Belchambers. She is only 14. I can find none of the child baptisms either but as you said there are several marriage records for possible children which I have found. I will try and see if I have any luck tracking him in the army muster rolls as you suggest. many thanksSharmain Date: Mon, 31 Aug 2015 17:14:33 +1000 Subject: Re: [INDIA] Robert Belchambers 67th N.I. From: sylcec@gmail.com To: sharmaingallagher@hotmail.co.uk Did he marry Elizabeth Pickard in 1824 at Chunar? Unusually this record only has him down as a soldier - no rank or regiment. And did he die at Monghyr 9 Apr 1866, described as Pensioner? Not very helpful! However, even though you have a reference to him being a QM Sgt in 67th BNI, I think you should still be able to track him through the muster rolls as almost certainly he served in one of the European regiments previously. Senior NCO positions in the BNI were held by British/Europeans rather than natives. So far I have not been able to find any records of baptism for children of Robert and ? Elizabeth, however there are several marriages which I suspect are his children, but of course they don't provide details of his occupation - rank/regiment; e.g. 14 Nov 1859 John Bellchamber, under age, Inspector EI Railway, son of Robert Bellchamber, m. Catharine Louisa D'Souza at Bhagulpore. Good luck with your searching. -- Sylvia Sylvia C M Murphy PO Box 2379 Carlingford Court NSW 2118 email: sylcec@gmail.com mob: 0430 011 855 On 30 August 2015 at 23:04, Sharmain Gallagher via <india@rootsweb.com> wrote: Dear list, I am trying to find our how one of my relatives got to India. I have found a reference in IOR for my 3rd g. grandfather Robert Belchabers (b. about 1800) which lists the following: Name: Robert BELCHAMBERS Event type:Biography Biographical notes: Sgt, Bengal Army 1819-62; IOR Biographical File Would there be anymore details in the biographical record or is the information transcribed what would be included in the record at the British Library? I also have a reference that lists him as Quartermaster Sgt 67th N.I. Am I likely to find any army records for him as he was in the native infantry?
