I cannot find anyone matching this description in the Soldiers' Discharge Papers on FMP. Looking at the 1861 and 1871 censuses I see that John was actually born in Bermuda. In 1871 John had left the army and was living in Islington. The eldest child with him was Elena? Aged 9, who was born in Aldershot, and the next child was aged 6 and born in Islington. This suggests to me that John left the army some time between 1862 and 1865. It's important to realise that if the soldier was not discharged to pension (that is if he died, or otherwise did not serve long enough to qualify for a pension - 12 years unless wounded) then his service papers will not be found in the WO series on FMP. My guess is that John FRASER did not serve the full 12 years. Noel
