Hello List I am researching William Alfred Bowen who was in the EIC and received a pension of £9 12s for life in 1818 and his widow Catherine (Kitty) was give a widowhood pension of £12 for life when William died in 1831. In the UK 1841 Census I have found that Catherine/Kitty was in Poplar Hospital, as a pensioner, and that in the 1851 Census she was in the East India Company Buildings, Poplar as a Pensioner East Indies Company. Can anyone tell me what the East India Company Buildings were? It obviously seems that they were for widows/widowers of the EIC but I might be wrong on that. Also, any idea when they were built and exactly where? I am also looking for information his 10 children by Catherine/Kitty: William bc 1804, St. Dunstans, StepneyJohn William b. 1806, St. DunstansMary Elizabeth b. 1808 St DunstansCatherine b. 1812 PoplarDavid Alfred b. 1815 PoplarWilliam Robert b. 1817 Poplar whom, I think, married a Mary Templeton in 1852 in Stratford Bow, and was also a MarinerThomas James b. 1820 PoplarMary Rebecca b. 1823 Poplar whom, I think, married a John Edward Biggs in 1845 in Aldgate. Biggs was also a MarinerAbel b. 1825 Poplar, Commander of the River Boat Chumbol on the Hoogly in Calcutta, died in 1868 Calcutta/Chandenagore and was my great grandfatherFrederick William b. 1828 Poplar I am pretty sure that William Alfred's parents were a William and Mary and that they had another son Thomas b. 1775 St. Dunstans, Stepney, as was William Alfred in 1772. If anyone can help me on any of these facts I would be extremely grateful. RegardsSimon Bowen
