Royal Regt.of foot(1st of foot).Or as one of the National Archive assistants told me after searching a reference book The Royal horse guards - the blues ????? Generally speaking, the Royal Regiment refers to the 1st Foot. It would be unusual to refer to the Royal Artillery as the Royal Regiment. The Horse Guards would not have seen service in India during the time period you are referring to, so I think you can rule them out. I would look to the muster rolls of the 1st Foot. Tim B.
