I recently sighted a burial entry in 1816 for Judith Herbert nee Macavoy who is described as a European woman from the artillery. I have not been able to find her birth, probably between 1790 and 1795. I had thought she could be the daughter of a soldier and an Indian woman. I am wondering whether the burial record description of her as a European woman can be relied upon. I have a copy of her marriage registration to Richard Herbert, a gunner of artillery, in 1812 in Baroda. Does anyone have comments on the reliability of burial records?
