    3. Just a minor correction to my previous notes on this man. The regimental number given to William when he enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers was STK 635 (the letters are STK and not STR for Star). He was later renumbered GS (for General Service) 47350. The notation STK was exclusively used for the so-called Stockbrokers' Battalion (see http://www.1914-1918.net/prefixes.html) thus proving that William enlisted in late August 1914, and must have been working in London at the time (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pals_battalion ).
