Hello List Shirley said: I have a birth/baptism registration for Thomas Ernest Abbott (b. Nov 1 1906) stating his parents are Ernest Abbott and Constance Helen. I really need to know what the marriage registry has for the maiden name for Constance, and who is listed as Ernest's father. If it is Harry Edwin Abbott, then I know I am on the right track... and Noel said in reply: An Earnest ABBOTT (note spelling) was born 28th November 1875 to Harry Edwin ABBOTT and Julia Ellen, and baptised at Mozufferpore, Bengal on 12th December 1875. Julia was Julia Ellen VIPAN. They were married 7th July 1870 at Calcutta. >From https://www.familysearch.org/ The Family Search entry for Earnest Abbott is unsubstantiated and therefore cannot be guaranteed in accuracy, indeed in my own family tree I have come across incorrect entries. However in this case the appears to be a good chance it is accurate, or that at the least there is some connection. The LDS beta site gives Mozufferpore as the place of baptism for Thomas Ernest Abbott. Searching the FIBIS database for Abbott and Mozufferpore gives the result (the link may not last permanently) http://search.fibis.org/frontis/bin/simplesearchsummarycat.php?s_id=432&sn=A bbott&fn=&f=&to=&t=Mozufferpore&c=&searchtype=0&tn=6 or http://tinyurl.com/2588dap This gives five children for H.E Abbott, sons in 1871, 26 July 1877, daughters in 1872, 27 July 1874, 1883, so from the dates another son 28 November 1875 is quite possible. There is a FIBIS Fibiwiki page Muzaffarpur http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Muzaffarpur with a link to a Fibiwiki page Indigo Plantation http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=Indigo_Plantation This latter page has on online book "History of Behar indigo factories ; Reminiscences of Behar ; Tirhoot and its inhabitants of the past ; History of Behar Light Horse Volunteers" and in it there are mentions of H.E Abbott, one mention of E Abbott, and many mentions of Mozufferpore. On the LDS beta site I found a baptism entry for Constance Helen Newton who is female with the name Constance Helen and more or less the right age to marry a man probably born 28 November 1875 (she is two and a half years older). There also is no other marriage record for her on the LDS sites (beta or old site) Name: Constance Helen Newton Gender: Female Baptism/Christening Date: 30 May 1873 Baptism/Christening Place: Bengal, India Birth Date: 21 Mar 1873 Birthplace: Bengal, India Father's Name: Ernest Augustus Newton Mother's Name: Christina Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C75023-3 System Origin: India-EASy Source Film Number: 499050 Reference Number: v 144 p 47 Due to the connection with Mozufferpore, perhaps Shirley could write to the Church group which would have the Mozufferpore church records for the Church where Thomas Ernest Abbott was baptised in the hope they may have a marriage record, which doesn't seem to be in the British Library Church records. If it was Church of England, the Church of England is now part of the Church of North India and Muzaffarpur appears to be in the Patna Diocese. http://dioceseofpatna.org/index.html gives an email address for the bishop. A different email address is in the details below which I obtained indirectly from the link http://www.cnisynod.org/tehdisc.aspx#patna (This link will not open directly and I do not know whether the problem is my computer or the website.
