Liddell's 'Simla Directory 1901' lists the Westend Hotel as occupied by the 'Band of His Excellency The Viceroy. 'Page 73 of 'Simla Past and Present' by Edward J. Buck published in 1904 mentions 'West End Hotel' as a 'Government house' occupied by members of the Viceroy's band. It also mentions 'Boswell Villa' and 'Boville' as similarly occupied. Going back to 1901, I find 'Boswell Villa" occupied by Mr. H. E. Buchner (Bandmaster to the Viceroy) and Mrs. Buchner, and 'Boville' by Sgt-Major Vaughan and Mrs. Vaughan.
