Hello List Joss said: My great grandparents were married at St George's Church 15 Apr 1889 and I have the details from the British Library records N/1/208 which give the information one would expect: names, ages, marital status, his profession, both places of residence, fathers' names, banns, witnesses. Would the original records give anything additional to this, for example might they mention the bride's suspected Anglo Indian origins? The impression I get, and this is based more on earlier records than 1889, is that whether racial background was recorded depended on the views of the individual minister, and could vary over time in the same church Also you need to know just what is meant by the wording used and the meaning may be specific to that church, perhaps at that time. Recently I gave some links to records from St Mary's Madras, which are based on the actual church registers. There is a footnote in for the 1780 records saying "native" of India means a person who was born in India.
