For examples see the following book -   http://www.archive.org/details/earlyannalsofeng02wilsuoft [1] I am particularly taken by the following extract (page v), regarding the arrival of a new Governor in 1710: "The luggage of the family consisted of nine tons of clothes, one ton of books, another of linen, a barrel of pewter, a bundle of bedding, six cases or small tubs of provisions, four hampers of cider, ten chests of beer, about the same quantity of wine, an escritoire, a harpsichord in a case, and 4,000 pounds of bullion."
